Wrapping Production on Comedy Short Film

Dog Cat Bear Productions is excited to announce the completion of principal photography on our latest short film, The Seven, which is now officially in post-production.
The Seven is a sharp, character-driven comedy that follows a dysfunctional improv troupe on the brink of collapse. After a disastrous performance becomes the final straw, the group turns to couples therapy—despite being very much not a couple—in a last-ditch effort to save their improv show. What unfolds inside the therapist’s office is a mix of uncomfortable truths, bruised egos, and absurd revelations that only a group of performers this chaotic could deliver.
As the film progresses, audiences are taken back to the infamous show that pushed the troupe into therapy. What initially plays as a simple comedic failure slowly reveals something deeper: each of the seven members embodies one of the seven deadly sins. Pride, envy, wrath, sloth, greed, gluttony, and lust don’t just shape their personalities—they actively sabotage the group’s ability to work together, listen, and grow. The result is a layered comedy that blends heightened humor with surprisingly honest observations about collaboration, self-awareness, and the chaos of creative spaces.
The film was written by Laurel Hatfield and directed by Brandon Miller, bringing a clear comedic vision and sharp pacing to the story. Cinematography was led by Jonathan Diaz, capturing both the intimacy of the therapy sessions and the energetic dysfunction of the improv performances. Producing duties were handled by Laurel Hatfield, Deion Galindo, and Jonathan Diaz under the Dog Cat Bear Productions banner.
The Seven continues Dog Cat Bear Productions’ commitment to character-first storytelling and bold, collaborative filmmaking. While firmly rooted in comedy, the film reflects a familiar truth for artists everywhere: creative groups are messy, emotional, and often their own worst enemy—but that’s also what makes them worth watching.
We’re currently deep in post-production and can’t wait to share more updates as the film comes together. Stay tuned for festival news, behind-the-scenes looks, and release details in the months ahead.
